Reel Aloha Poke & Fish Co. was built from a lifelong love of the ocean.
Founders Mana'o Alu and Weston Uemura were both born and raised in Kealakekua, a small town on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. From a young age, they spent their days fishing, diving, and learning the value of hard work, family, and the ocean that surrounded them.
When COVID-19 hit in 2020, everything changed. With restaurants closing, tourism slowing, and fewer visitors coming to Kona, it became difficult to sell the fresh fish. Instead of giving up, Manao and Weston found a new way to help their community.
They began selling fresh fish directly through Facebook and Instagram, delivering to friends, families, and neighbors throughout the island. Whether it was for birthdays, family dinners, or simply helping local families put fresh food on the table, they were proud to serve their community during a difficult time.
What started as a small way to support others quickly grew into something bigger. Through those experiences, they realized they wanted to create a place where people could enjoy the same fresh fish, local flavors, and aloha spirit they had grown up with.
Just a few months later, Reel Aloha Poke & Fish Co. was born.
What started as a small hole-in-the-wall has grown into a local favorite with both takeout and dine-in service, and the journey is only beginning. With plans for a future bar and more exciting things ahead, Reel Aloha continues to stay true to its roots: fresh fish, local flavor, and serving the community with aloha every day.
